Watch “Heat,” a PBS Frontline documentary that delves deep into climate change. It’s one of the best things I’ve seen on the subject and the whole program is online.

Some of the most disturbing things I learned:

  • Nearly half the world’s population depends on the Himalayan icebergs for fresh water. They’re melting now, and many of the rivers will dry up. (Ch. 1)
  • In 1958 (!!), Dr. Frank Baxter went on a popular TV science show and said: “Even now … man may be unwittingly changing the world’s climate through the waste products of his civilization.”  FIFTY years ago!  Imagine if people had started making SMALL changes then!  (Ch. 2)
  • So-called “clean coal technologies” have never been tested, are years away from being useful, and they won’t even be possible in many coal-mining regions. PLUS they’ll cost AT LEAST $0.20 to $0.30 more than current cost — and yet, even the man I hope to be our next President won’t stop praising this fairy tale. (Ch. 4)
  • Exxon Mobile is the largest corporation in the world and enjoyed a $40 billion net profit last year.  It’s investing most of that in finding more oil, and just one-tenth in renewable resources.  Half of that must be going green-washing, judging from its ad campaigns. (Ch. 6)
