A quarter of the globe’s 5,487 mammals are nearing extinction, another thousand may be at risk but there’s not enough data to assess. Some experts say this is a sign that the globe is facing a wave of extinctions that hasn’t been seen since the dinosaurs.

Nearly 80 percent of the primates in Asia are at risk of extinction. That’s largely due to hunting and habitat loss. Expansive underwater fishing nets and sonar signals kill up to a thousand sea mammals every day.
