photo Artist Marjetica Potrč’s shotgun house installation celebrates the renewal of New Orleans.  Created in partnership with the NOLA-based sustainable design firm Futureproof, it is perhaps best described as a symbolic prototype of new construction that fuses traditional architecture with self-sufficient, sustainable technology.  It features solar panels and the capacity to collect rainwater, as well as two “caryatids,” female sculptural pillars, that symbolize that the people of New Orleans are the “supporting pillars” of reconstruction. I went to college in NOLA and spent 8 months working with Common Ground Relief, a community-based organization helping to rebuild the Ninth Ward after the storm.  But I haven’t been back since organizations like the Make It Right Foundation have started constructing interesting and often visionary new homes that are both earth-friendly and affordable.  Can’t wait to visit and wander around.
