One of the Times’ exemplars of “deep green” living (the one who sometimes pees in the yard to “save a flush”) likes to give reusable bamboo flatware as gifts.  “That way, people don’t have to accept plastic cutlery at takeout places.”

Just so long as he supplies toilet paper for his house guests! ;)
